SILT, Colo.—An effort to oust Mayor Dave Moore is moving forward after the town clerk said Tuesday that a petition seeking a recall election has enough valid signatures.

The group seeking to recall Moore needed to collect 111 signatures. Town Clerk Sheila McIntyre said she verified 124, with four being thrown out.

Registered voters have until Sept. 28 to file a protest. If no protest is filed, the petition will go before the Town Board on Oct. 9, McIntyre said.

The recall petition was initiated by Mayor Pro Tem Tod Tibbetts, who accused Moore of violating a number of state statutes, town ordinances and code of ethics. Moore’s opponents say he failed to get a required permit for a construction project, conducted town board meetings improperly and had inappropriate dealings with staff.

Moore denied the claims and has said he is confident he would win in a recall election.
