A van rolled on U.S. Highway 36 about 5 miles northwest of Lyons, going down an embankment and coming to a stop near the St. Vrain Creek, authorities said.

The accident happened at about 5 p.m., said Trooper Ryan Sullivan, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.

Five people were in the van and at least one was taken by helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries, Sullivan said.

The highway was closed in both directions but reopened after 8 p.m..
