Two views of the Louvre

Ancient Excursions and the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts are presenting a trip to Paris in June 2008. The trip visits the Louvre and includes a stop in Atlanta to view the Louvre Atlanta Antiquities Exhibit. Louvre Atlanta is a partnership between the High Museum of Art and the Musée du Louvre in Paris that will bring hundreds of works of art from the Louvre’s collection to Atlanta. Cost is $1,250 per person and covers transportation and airfare from Denver, accommodations and most meals, museum entrance and tour fees. Call Gayle Mortell at 970-945-2414.

A Welsh celebration

Wymore, Neb., hosts the Welsh Festival on Oct. 6-7. The festival includes unveiling of an 80-foot-long mural painted by David Loewenstein on the wall of the Welsh Heritage Centre; introduction of the archive of Y Drych, the Welsh American newspaper 1851-1950 (available only at Wymore Public Library, Harvard University and in Wales); a Gymanfa Ganu (hymn-singing festival); a Norson Lawen (a variety show of Welsh American song, poetry, harp music, etc.); and a visit to the local Welsh cemetery, where the spirits of the pioneers “will magically rise and tell their stories.” Welsh films will be shown; the restored antique organ from the local Welsh church will be played; Welsh imports will be available for purchase; and a Welsh afternoon tea will feature imported Welsh tea and traditional Welsh teacakes. Learn to travel for less

Finding travel bargains is the subject of a research class scheduled for Dec. 13. The free, hour-long event is being offered by Arapahoe Community College’s Weber Center for Learning Resources.
