The Scientific and Cultural Facilities District approved distribution of more than $5.3 milllion to Tier III cultural organizations this week. Unlike the largest arts organizations, Tier III groups apply for their grants through individual counties, who make recommendations to the SCFD board for approval.
SCFD is a voter-approved taxing district that has provided public financial support to scientific and cultural organizations since 1989. Since then, SCFD has funded over 300 organizations via the 0.1 percent (1 cent on every $10) retail sales and use tax in the seven-county district. Counties within Scientific and Cultural Facilities District include Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson.
Here’s a rundown of new Tier III grants awarded to theater companies by the Scientific Cultural Facilities District. Leading the way among the Tier III theater troupes are Littleton’s Town Hall Arts Center with $78,000, followed by the Imagination Makers, who perform at schools for children, at $76,543:
