Oktoberfest Märzen Lager by Left Hand Brewing Co., $8.50 a six-pack
This malty, bready treat is produced by one of the more prolific craft brewers in Colorado. While O-fest brews are associated with the harvest season, for us urbanites these timely favorites conjure crisp autumn evenings in the biergarten with friends.
The copper-colored effort by Left Hand is a bit darker than expected and has a rather thin head but good lacing down the side of the glass as you drink. This is a smooth beer (6.0 percent alcohol content) with high drinkability, the aforementioned breadiness, notes of caramel and toffee and a dry, hoppy finish characteristic of the O-fest group.
Get it while you can, as this year’s entire stock is already in stores and should last only through the end of October.
Left Hand hosts tours Saturdays at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., or by appointment.
