The Denver coroner’s office has confirmed that the body of a child discarded in Dry Gulch Park to be that of Niveah Gallegos.
But the autopsy report, which will determine the cause of death, could take months to complete because of all the tests that need to be done, said Michelle Weiss-Samaras, Denver’s chief deputy coroner.
Registered sex offender Angel Ray Montoya, 22, and Niveah’s mother Miriam Gallegos, 20, have been arrested for investigation of homicide in her death.
According to a court affidavit, Gallegos told police she panicked Friday after finding Niveah not breathing. Instead of calling for help, she said she and Montoya, put Niveah’s body in two plastic trash bags and walked out the door.
