CANON CITY, Colo.—Investigators say a 25-year-old man apparently shot and killed his mother before killing himself during a dispute outside their Canon City home.
Authorities say they believe Joseph Lehrfeld shot and killed 55-year-old Donna Rutigliano after an argument on Tuesday and then turned the gun on himself.
Fremont County sheriff’s spokeswoman Andrea Cooper says the cause of the dispute isn’t known.
Several neighbors witnessed the shooting.
Authorities say the husband and father of the victims was working out of town at the time of the shooting.
A .357-caliber handgun was found at the scene.
