Sheridan – Midnight arrived for the Cinderella Twin on Wednesday, as the Sheridan City Council accepted a planning board’s approval to redevelop the 35-year-old drive-in into an 11-acre apartment complex.

Last month, the Sheridan Planning and Zoning Commission approved the final development plan for the 316-unit apartment complex near West Hampden Avenue and South Santa Fe Drive.

The drive-in’s final showings will be Friday and Saturday nights. Both screens will have triple features: “Halloween,” “Superbad,” “Balls of Fury,” “Underdog,” “Ratatouille” and “Rush Hour 3.”

Shows start at 8 p.m. Admission for adults is $9.

CAÑON CITY

25-year-old kills mom, then self

A 25-year-old man shot his mother to death and then fatally shot himself in front of several witnesses in Cañon City on Tuesday, officials say.

Donna Jean Rutigliano, 55, was killed and Joseph B. Lehrfeld, her son, committed suicide, said Andrea Cooper of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

Neighbors said Rutigliano and her son had an argument.

Man accused of sex assault, hitting baby

A man was charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting his girlfriend, punching her 18-month-old daughter and resisting arrest when police arrived.

Joseph Roberts, 30, was charged with sexual assault, misdemeanor child abuse, third-degree assault, assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest, according to a news release from the Denver district attorney’s office.

The charges allege Roberts was fighting with his 26-year-old girlfriend Sunday when he hit the daughter, assaulted his girlfriend and hit police while resisting arrest. He is being held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled in court Friday.

Bond pared for man in rattlesnake case

The bond for one of two men who allegedly plotted to use rattlesnakes to kill the owner of Amateur Poker Tour in Wheat Ridge was sharply reduced Wednesday after prosecutors dismissed two of three charges against him.

Christopher Lee Steelman, 34, originally was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit kidnapping in an alleged scheme to kill Matthew Sowash, owner of the tour.

But at a hearing where Steelman waived his right to a preliminary hearing, Jefferson County prosecutors dismissed the two conspiracy counts. Steelman now faces one count of extortion, a Class 4 felony. His bond was reduced from $500,000 to $10,000.

The preliminary hearing for the second defendant, Herbert Beck, 56, was continued to Oct. 10. Beck is charged with solicitation to commit murder, a Class 2 felony, and felony extortion.

Town marks date of school shooting

Today is the first anniversary of the hostage tragedy at Platte Canyon High School, which claimed the life of 16-year-old Emily Keyes.

Numerous events and memorials are planned in and around Bailey to mark the anniversary, including tonight’s “Bailey United,” a family-oriented community event at the Farmers Union from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Cheney in town for private fundraiser

Vice President Dick Cheney will be in Denver this afternoon to speak at a Republican fundraiser hosted at the offices of the Benson Mineral Group.

Cheney’s appearance, as part of a Colorado Victory 2008 reception, is closed to the public.

Littleton Navy medic dies in Afghanistan

A Navy medic from Littleton has been killed while serving in Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday.

Charles Luke Milam, 26, died Tuesday during combat operations in Helmand province. Milam, a petty officer 2nd class, was a hospital corpsman assigned to serve with the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
