Getting your player ready...

Refashion lunch sacks to hold memories instead of sandwiches.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Three standard 12-by-6-inch lunch bags
  • Manila folder or other hard edge
  • Colored cord, yarn or ribbon
  • Glue stick
  • Photos, journaling or memorabilia
  • Fun paper for decorating pages

    HOW IT’S DONE:

    1

Fold. Fold each bag in half, so that your pages will be 6 by 6 inches. Use a manila folder or the edge of a spoon to make the fold nice and sharp.

    2

Arrange. Open the bags flat and lay them one on top of the other, open end to closed end. Then fold the pile in half, and you’re ready to decorate each set of pages.

    3

Decorate. It’s a good idea to work on each two-page spread in the book form, so you don’t accidentally glue the decorative papers to the pages in the wrong order.

    4

Bind. When the pages are complete, bind the book by wrapping colored cord, yarn or ribbon around the inside center of the book; tie it in a knot and a bow along the outer spine. Finish by adding your photos, journaling and memorabilia.

    A FEW TIPS:

  • Use a glue stick to adhere the decorative papers to the paper bag pages. Don’t worry if the bag shows at the edges; that’s part of the charm of this kind of book.
  • Vellum tape, found in craft and scrapbook stores, is best for attaching transparent vellum papers; there’s no show-through.
  • Use archival adhesive to adhere your photos to the pages. There are several on the market.
  • Choose colors that work well with your photos and enhance your theme.
