DAZZLING DISCO FEVER: Schonbek’s glamorous Geometrix sphere-shaped chandeliers were already gorgeous and progressive-looking in residential settings. But with the company’s new Da Vinci LED technology, these indulgent crystal globes are taking cues from one of night life’s most popular decorating trends: mood-changing lighting. The glittery LED globes come in 3-foot or 5-foot diameters, and can light up with one monochromatic halogen bulb, or an array of fading colors. Prices start at $38,000, but smaller, more modestly priced models (without the LED technology) are available. For information and a list of Colorado distributors, visit or call 518-563-7500.
PARK HILL HOME TOUR: The 29th Annual Historic Park Hill Home Tour is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year Xcel Energy will sponsor one of the tour’s seven homes – the 1925 Achenbach home at 2281 Ivy St., which is pictured here in a rendering by architect Marc Applebaum. Xcel representatives will be on hand to answer questions about energy conservation in older homes, point out the house’s energy-saving features, and distribute free DVDs with energy-saving tips. The tour also corresponds with a street fair on 22nd Avenue between Ivanhoe and Ivy streets featuring music, food and shopping. Tickets are $4-$15 at all Front Range King Soopers, the Park Hill Library, the Park Hill Cooperative Book Store, Spinelli’s Market and the Greater Park Hill Community Inc. office, 2823 Fairfax St. For information, call 303-388-0918.
AMISH QUALITY IN COLORADO: Amish artisans rely on traditional woodworking techniques passed down through generations to produce the old-fashioned bridal chests distributed by Handcrafted Hope Chests in Highlands Ranch. Company owner and longtime retailer Lisa Yarosh says the variety of woods and stains available to her customers make these chests useful and versatile in today’s homes, and the handcrafted quality means they are cherished family keepsakes. Prices range from $270 to $500.
