MINDEN, Nev.—A convicted killer arrested in Nevada has waived extradition to return to Colorado, where he escaped from prison 31 years ago.
Robert Charles Johnson, 56, was serving a 10- to 15-year sentence for second-degree murder when he escaped from the Colorado State Penitentiary in April 1976.
He was arrested Monday in Gardnerville.
Johnson waived extradition during a hearing Wednesday before a justice of the peace.
Authorities said Johnson had been using the name Robert Fargo and working odd jobs and as a whitewater river guide while on the lam.
Officials in Colorado said Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the killing of Michael Albert Lucas, who was found shot to death in 1972 on a hiking trail near Colorado Springs.
