MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.—Fire crews made progress over the weekend against a fire burning in steep canyons and rugged terrain near Pikes Peak.
The fire was 80 percent contained Sunday morning. Earlier estimates had pegged the fire at 80 acres, but the size was revised to 30 acres due to better mapping.
The fire started Friday.
The Barr Trail, which leads to the top of Pikes Peak, was closed as crews worked but was expected to reopen Monday.
Meanwhile, El Paso County officials said no charges were expected over a wildfire Saturday that burned a home near Ellicott.
The blaze began when a hay truck caught fire while it was driving, County Fire Marshal Jim Reid said. Officials were not sure how the truck caught fire. Reid said it was considered an accident and that the driver won’t be charged.
Sheriff’s officials had estimated the fire at about 300 acres.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region treated a couple of llamas that were charred, he said.
