David Smith of Englewood Golf Course and Laurie Steenrod of Saddle Rock Golf Course finished with a combined two-day total of 127 points to win the open division of the CWGA/CGA Mixed Stableford Team Championship at Rio Grande Club in South Fork on Sunday.
Kary Kaltenbacher and Kathleen Cox, from Glenmoor Country Club, scored 110 points to win the event’s senior division.
Mark Graham and Helen Graham of Colorado Golf Club won the open division net title. Steve McCormick and Linda McCormick of Rio Grande Club won the senior division net championship.
Boulder cyclist off the pack. Boulder’s Christian Vande Velde of Team CSC finished 36th at the UCI Road World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, the second-highest American finish.
George Hincapie of Greenville, S.C., and Discovery Channel topped the American finishers in the 267-kilometer elite men’s road race. He was 49 seconds off the pace of winner and defending champion Paolo Bettini of Italy.
