FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Cherry Creek High School’s Brian Dorfman shot a 2-under-par 69 Monday to take a one-shot lead in the Class 5A state boys golf championships.

Dorfman’s 69 was one shot lower than the 70s posted at Collindale Golf Course by teammate Alex Gutesha and Fairview’s Brennan Dolan. Arapahoe’s Steven Moore was fourth with a 71.

Three players were tied for fifth with 72s: Fort Collins’ Chris Shaw, Pomona’s Zahkai Brown and Chatfield’s Robert Quick. Dorfman had six birdies, eight pars and four bogeys in his round at Collindale, which was hosting the state tournament for the second time. It’s the annual site for the U.S. Open local qualifier.

Arapahoe and Cherry Creek shared the team lead with scores of 220. Fairview was in third place with 225. The final round of the two-day, 36-hole tournament is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Frost on the greens delayed Monday’s start by an hour.
