Style mavens, slip into your high- heeled booties and grab a chic clutch bag to gear up for the flurry of fashion events this week showcasing the work of local talents.

Brandi Shigley brings together clothing and accessories designers several times a year and has planned a “Zen” mini-market for Saturday that will feature about 20 local companies. Among the collections that will bring “balance” to wardrobes are Andrea Li, BumbleBeads, Cyclops Merchandise and HoodooNation.

A preview of the market will be held 7-10 p.m. Friday at RedShift Framing, 2266 Broadway. The $5 admission benefits Cornerstone Orphanage in Sudan.

The market will be open Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at ID345, 2930 Larimer St. A $5 admission charge will be donated to Dress for Success Denver. More at fashion

Among the new lines to debut at the Zen market is ninether, a collection of T-shirts, tanks and yoga wear by Michael Muse and Robbie Maestas. Their “clothes with a conscience” feature politically charged silkscreened designs advocating peace and celebrating nature. The designers launch their collection with a party from 8 p.m to 2 a.m. Friday at Vinyl, 1082 Broadway. Admission is $5 before 11 p.m. and $10 after, with a portion of the proceeds going to the African Well Fund. Info at 9ether .

Fashion Group International of Denver hosts its Rising Star gala Saturday, honoring Gino Velardi for his women’s wear collection. Designs by Velardi and seven other designers will be spotlighted in a reception, silent auction and show from 4-8 p.m. at the Lakewood Country Club, 6800 W. 10th Ave. Tickets are $25 for students and $65 for general admission; premium and patron tickets are $85 and $100. Also opening on Saturday is an exhibit at the Curtis Arts and Humanities Center. Paintings, quilted pieces and an evening dress made of metal are among the 20 or so works shown by six local designers, including Lynne Bruning, Jose Clark and Sumie Miyake. A reception is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and the show continues through Oct. 26. The center, 2349 E. Orchard Road, Greenwood Village, holds a tea and fashion show at 1 p.m. Oct. 20.
