Fast fooderies aside, IMHO, the worst offenders are steak and chophouse-style restaurants and places like Oceanaire, which dish out each seafood entree as if it were a porterhouse for two. The mountain of fries with each order of something else fried (fish and chips, mixed seafood, etc.) would feed a family of Darfur refugees for a week. When I asked why, the waiter said, “We go for the wow factor!”

I truly believe that as children we are told to “eat what is on your plate!” and it’s a very difficult habit to break! We go to restaurants and get huge portions and pay dearly for them and don’t want to waste it. Why not pare down the portion size and charge less for the plate? $17 for a bowl of pasta that is bigger than your head is ridiculous! Charge me $8 and give me a portion that I can finish and I’ll be happy!
