Eric Eidsness Tuesday became the second Democrat to drop out of 4th Congressional District race in a week, giving Democrats the opportunity to coalesce behind one candidate.

Eidsness said the “handwriting on the wall” showed that he did not have enough support in Larimer County to win the Democratic nomination next year.

Betsy Markey, a businesswoman and former aide to U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, becomes the sole Democrat in the race.

Angie Paccione, a former state representative who ran an unsuccessful campaign against incumbent Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave last year, bowed out the race last week.

Eidsness also ran for the seat but as a Reform Candidate. He collected 10 percent of the vote.
