We all need to get better, take a look at what we’re doing, figure it out. That was Jay Cutler’s message Sunday after the Broncos’ latest round of shortcomings in the red zone.
So, Cutler was asked by The Post’s Mike Klis, does he think the coaches might get a little conservative near the goal line because of his inexperience?
“You’re asking the wrong person,” Cutler said. “I run what’s called.”
Smart kid, Cutler. In the end, he does what the coaches tell him to do. That’s life in the 21st century NFL, in which quarterbacks are literally programmed, with mini-headphones in their helmets, to carry out the coaches’ strategy.
Which brings us to Mike Shanahan. With the season one-fourth in the books, it’s very clear where Shanahan’s biggest challenge lies. Jim Bates may or may not be able to fix the defense’s issues, thus Shanahan has to get creative so the Broncos’ offense can cash in on long drives with touchdowns instead of field goals.
The way the Broncos’ run defense is shaping up, they need every point they can get.
