FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Pomona High School’s Zahkai Brown shot 72 in the final round to win the Class 5A state boys golf championship by two shots Tuesday.
Brown had a 36-hole total of 2-over 144 at the Collindale Golf Course.
Fairview’s Brennan Dolan, who had a chance to force a playoff on the final hole, and Chatfield’s Robert Quick tied for second at 146.
Fairview won the team title with a score of 454. Douglas County was second at 456, and first round co-leader Arapahoe finished third at 467.
Brown, the younger brother of Colorado State University golfer Zen Brown, had a three-shot lead with four holes to play but squandered most of it, making bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes. Dolan, who made birdie 3 on the 17th hole to get within one shot, had a 30-foot par putt from the fringe on the 18th hole to force a playoff. He missed it, then missed the bogey putt to drop into a tie for second.
Cherry Creek’s Brian Dorfman, who held the first-round lead with a 69, went 16 shots higher and shot 85 to finish in a tie for 14th.
