DENVER—Officials with the host committee for the 2008 Democratic National Convention say they hope to have $15 million raised for the event by Dec. 14.

Host committee CEO Mike Dino told the City Council’s Economic Development Committee on Wednesday that fundraising for the convention in Denver is ahead of schedule compared with where Boston and Los Angeles were for their conventions.

The 2008 convention will be held Aug. 25-28.

The host committee has previously said it hoped to raise $40 million in cash and $15 million in in-kind contributions by June 2008.

It largely has avoided giving specific fundraising updates since reporting that by June 1, it had about $6 million in cash, which was short of its $7.5 million goal for that date.
