DENVER—A federal judge has ruled that a ski village planned in southwest Colorado must remain on hold until the court hears a lawsuit by environmental groups trying to block construction.
U.S. District Judge John Kane in Denver has accepted the recommendation from a federal magistrate to extend a preliminary injunction blocking work on a ski village proposed at the base of the Wolf Creek ski area. The lawsuit challenges a decision by the U.S. Forest Service allowing the developer to build two access roads across federal land to private property.
The preliminary injunction will remain until the judge makes a final decision on whether the roads can be built.
The lawsuit is one of a handful filed over plans by Texas billionaire Billy Joe “Red” McCombs to build hotels, homes and businesses on nearly 300 acres.
