A shadow falls on the face of an explorer increasingly considered a shady character by some folks in this part of the Front Range, though that number doesn’t necessarily include contributing photographer Rick Charbonneau, the Denver Newspaper Agency’s state circulation manager. Where is this famous bust, and who is the New World adventurer it depicts? Tell us via e-mail to ColoradoSunday@denverpost.com. Include a digital photo of yourself and remember to include your hometown in the message. Our favorite answer wins a $25 gas card.

The winner: “J.R” Sotero J. Rodriguez, Loveland: The newsboy is delivering the Loveland Reporter- Herald in Loveland. I used to deliver papers in the same way, on my bike. Every time I pass by the statue, it brings back memories of the good time that I had while delivering the paper.

Kathy Patrick, Fort Collins: The lad has just picked up the Loveland Reporter- Herald outside the newspaper offices in downtown Loveland. Loveland is world-renowned for sculptures and their artists, so it is very fitting to have one near the newspaper building.

Phil Millett, Arvada: He is in the middle of his paper route – note the half-empty canvas bags on his handlebars. I am particularly fond of newspaper boys. I used to work with Mr. “Worm” Charbonneau at The Denver Post as a district manager, when we used to have newspaper boys.

Kathryn Shimmura, Loveland: The bronze newsboy is at Fifth and Cleveland in Loveland, in the heart of the old downtown area of Loveland, which has become revitalized over the past several years. Buildings are being gussied up, new businesses are moving in all the time and we now have several fine restaurants.

Margie Southworth, Loveland: Parked in front of his Reporter- Herald office in downtown Loveland, this statue is just one of the many whimsical and beautiful statues we enjoy around town, and my kids love jumping on the back of his seat.
