Getting your player ready...

Javon Walker said he will return to the field against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 21.

“Yes, that’s the game I’ll be back,” Walker said Friday.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan determined that Walker, the team’s No. 1 receiver, will not play against the visiting San Diego Chargers today because of a lingering knee problem. Walker didn’t play at Indianapolis. Shanahan said Friday when Walker didn’t practice for the third straight day that he wouldn’t play. Brandon Stokley, the team’s No. 3 receiver, will start in Walker’s place for the second straight game.

Walker has fluid on the back of his knee that continues to need draining. Shanahan agreed with Walker’s expectation that he’ll be ready to face the Steelers.

Meanwhile, safety John Lynch will return after missing the Colts game with a groin injury. Fullback Mike Bell, who has a concussion, is a game-time decision.

Martinez to get a shot. Receiver Glenn Martinez will likely be the team’s punt returner today. The team has also been thinking about using Dré Bly at the position. The team has an opening in the wake of the release of Domenik Hixon, who was subsequently claimed by the New York Giants.

“I’m excited to get a shot,” said Martinez, who was promoted from the practice squad. “I am an action junkie and I love returning.”

Receiver Brian Clark and running back Andre Hall will likely be the team’s kick returners.

Greek to return next week. The Broncos expect trainer Steve Antonooulos to return to the team soon. He will miss his second straight game after having a medical procedure. Shanahan said Antonopulos, known as “Greek,” is doing well and is looking forward to returning to work.

Wives drive. The 25th Broncos Wives Drive will take place before the game. Cash donations will be collected at all gates at Invesco Field at Mile High. The donations will be given to Denver apharities and distributed in the form of grants to organizations that help the hungry and homeless.

Decision time. The Broncos are expected to make a decision on defensive lineman Kenny Peterson after the game. The team has a roster exemption this week, so Peterson could practice. He returned from a four-game suspension for violating the league’s steroid policy. The suspension was lifted Monday. If Denver keeps Peterson, it will have to release another player.
