Kathleen Vazquies of Thornton was recently selected to participate in Nationals' 2007 Miss Teen Denver pageant competition that will take place on October 7, 2007. Kathleen learned of her acceptance into this year's competition as Nationals, Inc. announced their selections on Monday afternoon. Kathleen submitted an application and took part in an interview session that was conducted by Patty Neidert, this year's Denver Pageant Coordinator.

Kathleen learned of her acceptance into this year’s competition as Nationals, Inc. announced their selections on Monday afternoon. Kathleen is a 14-time gold medalist with the Colorado Special Olympics Adams 12 swim team. She is the team manager for the girls softball team and has played right field on the junior varsity and C teams. She also swims with the Thornton-Horizon High School combined team in the winter.

Kathleen regularly volunteers with the homeless and is a hostess with the program Growing Home, in which St. Anthony Hospital North and area churches shelter families and provide meals for one week while they look for a more permanent residence.

Kathleen has worked at Water World with the grounds team. She is a student assistant at Thornton High and regularly works with Distributive Education Clubs of America, serving lunches to her fellow students.

She is a member of the Alternative Cooperative Education/Work Experience Study program, which will help prepare her for a career in the food or retail industry.
