It seems the only news in town that anyone wants to hear is “when are World Series tickets going on sale?”
Unless you have a line on tickets to the sold-out National League championship series with the Arizona Diamondbacks that begins Thursday in Phoenix.
The Colorado Rockies are officially mum about a schedule for buying tickets to the World Series.
However, the Diamondbacks, perhaps through false confidence, have already posted on their website how they propose to sell World Series tickets, in the unlikely event they get past our Rockies.
The D-Backs started a registration period on Sept. 28, which runs through noon, next Tuesday, Oct. 16. The team will then conduct a random selection of individuals from the pool of registrants on Wednesday, Oct. 17. They will be notified no later than Oct. 23.
Only persons 18 years and older can register to purchase and they must have a valid email address. Registration forms can be pulled off the D-Backs’ website, .
Instructions on how to purchase the tickets will be emailed to those selected.
But to get there, the D-backs and their fans have to get through the Rockies.
Major League Baseball announced times for those games today:
Game 1: Thursday in Phoenix, 6 p.m.
Game 2: Friday in Phoenix, 2 p.m.
Game 3: Sunday at Coors Field, 6 p.m.
Game 4: Monday at Coors Field, 6 p.m.
Game 5: Oct. 17 at Coors Field, 6 p.m., if necesary.
Game 6: Oct. 19 in Phoenix, 6:30 p.m., if nec.
Game 7: Oct. 20 in Phoenix, 6 p.m., if nec.
The series is sold out in Denver.
Scalpers’ ads in local newspapers list good seats for $500 each. On the Internet at ., lower level seats sell for around $300 each, with upper level seats $100+. By law tickets cannot be sold above face value in Denver, but outside the city limits, ticket-broker officers are legal.
On Sunday and again early this morning, Rockies’ security guards shooed off optimistic fans looking for World Series tickets. The only thing guards told the fans is that camping out will do them no good because the coveted tickets will be sold by lottery only, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
No date has been listed for the start of the lottery, nor have details been given for extra tickets that may become available or any pricing.
The first two games against the Diamondbacks will be played Thursday and Friday in Arizona. The first home game will be Sunday, at a time to be determined. The fourth game will be played in Colorado on Monday.
If more games are needed in the best-of-seven series, the fifth will be played in Colorado on Wednesday, Oct. 17, with the sixth and seventh in Arizona on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20.
All games will be televised on TBS.
