JEFFERSON COUNTY — A house at the intersection of Terry Street and 11th Avenue was a total loss today after it was consumed by flames.

A large column of dark smoke visible for several miles could be seen beginning at about 3 p.m. No one was inside the home.

Firefighters from the Pleasant View, Golden and West Metro departments battled the blaze, which was in an unincorporated area of Jefferson County known as Pleasant View.

Fire officials said the cause is still under investigation, although excavation work being done around the one-story home may have cut a gas line.
