DENVER—A mother who told police she was Christ and her three children were the anti-Christ was found not guilty by reason of insanity, the Denver District Attorney’s office said Monday.

Brenda Hernandez, 25, last week was found legally insane when she tried drowning her then 2-, 3- and 7-year-old children in a bathtub, district attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said.

Hernandez, who had been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, was committed to the state hospital for an indefinite period, Kimbrough said.

All three children survived the Feb. 10 attack.

Police said the oldest child told investigators his mother wanted him to help drown his two younger sisters and to help her kill his aunt.

Police believe the aunt, Elizabeth Rodriguez, may have interrupted Hernandez’s alleged attempt to drown the children when she knocked on Hernandez’s apartment door and then called 911.
