DENVER—Officials Tuesday released the name of a passenger who died after a Denver police car crashed into a sport utility vehicle.

Ulises Solis, 38, of Denver, died in the accident that happened at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Chief Deputy Coroner Michelle D. Wiess-Samaras said.

Additional details about the accident were not released.

Officials said a police officer was responding to a call to backup another police officer when the accident happened. The driver of the SUV and the police officer sustained injuries that weren’t life threatening.

The accident is being investigated jointly by the department’s traffic investigations unit and the district attorney’s office. The department’s independent monitor, Richard Rosenthal, will monitor the investigation, police said.
