What is the benefit of creating focal points in your décor?
You draw attention to that space. A focal point defines where your eye should go. It can be a single object such as a large piece of art, or it can be a grouping of accessories. It also might be a design within a tile backsplash.
The effective use of scale also can make a room seem larger. In the same way that coordinating a backsplash and a hood creates a large focal point, adjusting cabinet heights can make a ceiling appear higher.
Just remember that too many small items can clutter. Minimize the clutter and maximize the space by using less furnishings and one or two oversized pieces.
