Jackie McFarland, a senior forward on the University of Colorado women’s basketball team, was named to the All-Big 12 Conference preseason team, after a vote of league coaches Wednesday.

McFarland is the second CU player named to the preseason Big 12 team, joining former Buffaloes standout Erin Scholz who was voted in 1996.

Nebraska forward Kelsey Griffin, Oklahoma center Courtney Paris and the backcourt from Texas A&M, A’Quonesia Franklin and Takia Starks, were also named to the five-person team. Each of the players was an All-Big 12 selection last season.

McFarland ranked first in the Big 12 last season and third in the nation in field-goal percentage, shooting 61 percent. She was second in the league in scoring average at 17.8 points. She is one of five CU players all-time with more than 1,300 points and 700 rebounds in a career. And she is just one of three CU players with consecutive 500-point seasons.

Colorado’s season starts Nov. 16 at San Francisco.
