Jackie McFarland, a senior forward on the University of Colorado women’s basketball team, was named to the all-Big 12 Conference preseason team Wednesday after a vote of league coaches.
McFarland is the second CU player named to the preseason all-Big 12 team, joining former standout Erin Scholz in 1996.
Nebraska forward Kelsey Griffin, Oklahoma center Courtney Paris and the backcourt from Texas A&M, A’Quonesia Franklin and Takia Starks, also were on the five-woman team. Each of the players was an all-Big 12 selection last season.
McFarland ranked first in the Big 12 last season and third in the nation in field-goal percentage, shooting 61 percent. She was second in the league in scoring at 17.8 points. She is one of five CU players all time with more than 1,300 points and 700 rebounds in a career. And she is just one of three CU players with consecutive 500-point seasons.
Colorado’s season starts Nov. 16 at San Francisco.

CC men’s lacrosse hires two coaches. The Colorado College men’s lacrosse team added former Drew University standout Peter Martin and one-time U.S. Military Academy goaltender Dominic Nogic to its coaching staff. Martin will be the defensive coordinator, and Nogic will lead the goalies.
