A twin-engine airplane safely landed in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Gypsum on Wednesday afternoon.
David Kunkel, 62, of Meeker was flying solo from Denver International Airport to Meeker when the plane’s engines failed at 1:17 p.m., said Gilbert Mares, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.
The State Patrol has received no reports that motorists had to take evasive action to avoid an accident, Mares said.
Kunkel was not injured during the emergency landing.
The westbound lanes of I-70 were closed temporarily while the plane was towed off the highway, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
