KEYSTONE, Colo.—Skiers and snowboarders lined up at Arapahoe Basin Wednesday to be the first to hit the slopes this season.
The resort, which reported an 18 inch base of man-made snow, is the first in North America to open for the season, according to trade group Colorado Ski Country USA.
Sunny skies and highs in the 40s were forecast at the resort on the Continental Divide.
In Colorado, Arapahoe Basin traditionally competes with the Loveland ski resort to be the first resort to open in Colorado each year. It’s the earliest opening in the 61-year history of Arapahoe Basin, which was the nation’s first resort to open last year.
Both Loveland and Arapahoe Basin have been making snow since Sept. 24, taking advantage of the cold nights of early fall.
Arapahoe Basin has one intermediate run and its terrain park open.
