A 42-year-old woman faces murder charges in the shooting death Monday of a 56-year-old man near Sloan’s Lake, according to a police report.

Shari Herrera of Edgewater was seen speaking with Joseph Trujillo of Denver shortly before a shot was fired and Trujillo fell to the ground, according to the report.

Herrera was arrested for investigation of first-degree homicide and is being held in the Denver City Jail, according to Denver County Court records.

Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said the shooting was originally reported as a suicide but after homicide detectives investigated, they determined it was a homicide.
