A Broomfield man who threw his roommate’s visitor out of the house shot the man in the stomach early this morning when he returned armed with a pool cue and kicked in the door.

Broomfield spokeswoman Colleen O’Connell said investigators heard this account from witnesses to the incident at 295 Greenway Circle:

The 31-year-old woman who owns the home arrived at about 2:30 a.m. with the 42-year-old victim and began pounding on the door, waking up her 32-year-old male roommate.

“He hears knocking and pounding on the door of the house. He thinks she is at home, so he is wondering what is happening, so he puts a gun in his pocket and goes to the door,” O’Connell said.

He opened the door and let the two into the house, then went back to bed. “Around 4 o’clock, he gets up because the gentleman is being loud, so he asks him to leave, and the gentleman leaves,” she said.

Five minutes later, the man returned with the pool cue, kicked in the door and was shot.

Police officers responding to the shooting found the wounded man outside the home. He was taken to St. Anthony North Hospital, where doctors operated on him.

No further information on his condition is currently available.

The alleged shooter was taken to the Broomfield Detention Center where he is being held pending possible charges.

No names have been released, and the investigation is continuing.
