A man who said he had a gun attempted to rob a King Soopers pharmacy on Wednesday, according to the Loveland Police Department.
Officers arrested William M. Olmstead, 30, of Colorado Springs at 7:51 p.m. at the King Soopers at 253 E. 29th St. in Loveland on suspicion of criminal attempt to commit aggravated robbery of a controlled substance, a Class 3 felony, and theft, a Class 3 misdemeanor.
According to a police release, Olmstead demanded Ativan, which is used to treat anxiety disorders, and Darvocet, a pain reliever, from pharmacy employees. Officers did not find the gun that Olmstead said he had.
“He wasn’t being overtly confrontational to the staff,” Sgt. Jan Burreson said. “The employees asked him to leave, he walked away, and that was the end of it. We arrested him in another part of the store.”
Burreson said Olmstead was on probation in Colorado Springs and had a warrant for his arrest out of Florida that was nonextraditable. Burreson did not know what the offenses were.
Olmstead is being held in the Larimer County Detention Center and awaiting formal charges from the district attorney’s office.
King Soopers employees declined to comment on the incident.
