CU RUNNER SETS RECORD
University of Colorado star Jenny Barringer ran a course-record time of 19 minutes, 49 seconds in the 6,000-meter race Saturday at the La Verne Gibson Cross Country Course, winning the NCAA Pre-Nationals at Terre Haute, Ind. Barringer’s time helped the No. 2-ranked CU women’s team to a sixth-place finish in the 35-team White division. Colorado State, behind a 21st-place finish by April Thomas in 20:48, finished in sixth place in the 32-team Blue division.
In the men’s White division, Colorado’s Stephen Pifer (23:16.7) and Brent Vaughn (23:16.8) finished third and fourth, respectively, as the Buffaloes claimed second in the 35-team, 8,000-meter race. Wyoming finished 29th.
AFA defeats U-18 hockey teamGreg Flynn’s power-play goal at 18:47 in the second period became the game-winner and Brad Sellers tallied three assists in Air Force’s 4-3 exhibition victory over the U.S. National Under-18 team at Cadet Ice Arena. The Falcons built a 4-1 lead, then held off a late U-18 rally.
Falcons edge Pioneers Kyle Moses’ shot through traffic for a goal in the 43rd minute proved to be the game-winner as Air Force defeated host Denver 2-1 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer match at Pioneer Field.
CSU spikers sweep WyomingThe No. 23-ranked Colorado State women’s volleyball team earned a three-game sweep of Wyoming in Laramie, winning 30-27, 30-20, 30-28 in a Mountain West Conference match. Katelin Batten led the Rams with 16 digs and Jaime Strauss added 14 kills and seven digs.
CU downed in Big 12 volleyball matchThe Colorado women’s volleyball team lost a ninth consecutive match, falling to Texas A&M in a Big 12 Conference matchup 26-30, 30-22, 30-25 and 30-17. Schylur Edelman led the Buffs with 12 kills.
Miners hold off TigersTexas-El Paso got two goals 61 seconds apart in the second half, from Jami Tulius and Cara Nordin, and defeated the Colorado College Tigers 3-2 in a Conference USA women’s soccer match at Stewart Field in Colorado Springs.
