Funeral services for Colorado State Trooper Zachariah Templeton will be held on Friday in Longmont.

Templeton, 27, died Friday of injuries he received the day before when he was hit by a pickup truck on the median of I-76 in Weld County. Templeton and fellow trooper Scott Hinshaw stopped to help a farmer secure two plastic agricultural tanks on his trailer.

A teenage pickup driver drifted onto the median and hit the troopers. Hinshaw has been upgraded from serious to fair condition at Denver Health Medical Center.

Templeton’s service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Lifebridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Highway or Colorado 66, in Longmont.

The state patrol anticipates a large gathering of law enforcement officers and media and advises persons wanting to attend to arrive an hour early.

The patrol lost another trooper Sunday when Trooper Mark Dold, 49, of Durango, died trying to avoid a herd of deer on the highway. He was off-duty riding his motorcycle when he swerved off an embankment and hit a fence post. He died at the scene.

No services have been announced yet for Dold.
