PUEBLO, Colo.—State Rep. Dorothy Butcher said Wednesday she is resigning her leadership position in the Colorado House to spend more time running for Pueblo County commissioner.
Butcher said it would be unfair to the Democratic Party and her Pueblo constituents if she tried to keep her job as majority whip while running for the District 2 commission seat.
“You have to be there 12 months out of a year as the whip. As part of the leadership, you have to be in Denver, and you have to put the time in. My feeling was that it would not be fair to the party, it would not be fair to the House, it would not be fair to Pueblo to have me with one oar on each side of the boat,” she said.
As whip, it was her job to make sure fellow party members were present when key votes were taken.
Butcher also resigned her seat on the Legislative Audit Committee.
