Priest Holmes went through another impressive workout Thursday and the Chiefs appeared to be leaning toward activating the running back.

Attempting an improbable return to the NFL after being out for 22 months because of neck and spinal injuries, Holmes, 34, had his first practice Wednesday and coaches said they would pay particular attention to how he did Thursday.

“He was still fresh, wasn’t sore,” Kansas City coach Herm Edwards said with a wry shake of his head. “He went through practice, had a good practice.”

Edwards said he has not made a decision whether Holmes would play Sunday at Oakland.

“We’ll wait another day and see how he feels (today),” Edwards said.

Young skips practice. Titans quarterback Vince Young threw a little, but remained sidelined during practice by his strained right quadriceps muscle.

“It could be as late as gametime whether or not he’ll play,” coach Jeff Fisher said of Young’s availability for Sunday’s game against Houston.

Dilfer gets another start. Quarterback Trent Dilfer will start for the 49ers on Sunday, though Alex Smith (separated shoulder) also will be in uniform when they visit the Giants.

Tight end Vernon Davis is expected to play Sunday after missing the past two games with a sprained knee ligament.

Warner optimistic about playing. Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner has settled on a combination of tape and a brace to hold his injured elbow in place and says he’s feeling good about being able to play Sunday at Washington.

“I did a lot more, was more comfortable,” Warner said after practice. “I had a little discomfort, but not a whole bunch of pain. So I felt good.”
