WESTIN INN SAVANNAH HARBOR

One Resort Drive, Savannah, Ga. 912-201-2000,

Rates: Start at $209 per night for a room with a king bed. Guests can upgrade to get guaranteed views, exercise equipment and deluxe baths and beds. Self-parking is free.

Stay here if you’re: A vacation traveler looking for a genuine getaway. Located just across the harbor from Savannah, this hotel offers great views of the water and the giant cargo ships that pass by. Getting into the city is easy via a quick, and romantic, water taxi. If he likes golf and she likes fancy dinners on the town, this place could save your marriage.

It’s close to: The streets, parks and cemeteries of Savannah, where there’s plenty to see and do. And the Hilton Head Island beaches are an hour away.

The rooms are: Well-appointed, but basic. No complaints about the mini- bar, but the décor could be more luxurious for a “resort.” Ask for a water view, or you could be disappointed.

They put all of the money into: The golf course, located a short walk or cart ride from the hotel. The inviting outdoor pool where guests lounge on hammocks, sipping cocktails and staring at the city skyline.

The bottom line: Folks who want to play in Savannah day and night might be annoyed that this place is across the harbor; you can’t just run into town for breakfast or a drugstore. But if you are going to Savannah to relax Southern-style, this hotel is a romantic choice. – Ray Mark Rinaldi
