A hearing will be held Tuesday on whether 10 Douglas County towns should be ruled “abandoned” because they have not had an election in at least five years.
The towns are Acequia, Deckers, Douglas, Franktown, Greenland, Huntsville, Lehigh, Louviers, Russellville and West Creek (Westcreek).
Secretary of state spokesman Richard Coolidge said public testimony is encouraged at the 9 a.m. hearing in Castle Rock to help his office decide the issue.
Douglas County wants the “abandoned” ruling, but John Evans, an attorney for residents seeking to keep Franktown alive, warned state officials that they might not have jurisdiction to decide.
On Friday a Denver judge denied a motion to block the secretary of state from holding the hearing as part of its decisionmaking process.
