GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—The Garfield County real estate market remains robust despite industry softness in other parts of the state.

Total real estate transactions in 2007 were up 8 percent from the same time last year.

“People can still buy,” said real estate broker Andy Stanczak of Home Town Re/Max in New Castle. “The ones who are in trouble are the ones that had problems qualifying before. But with a steady income and good credit score, people can still buy.”

Transactions in New Castle, about 10 miles west of Glenwood Springs and 130 miles west of Denver, were up a whopping 96 percent for the first eight months of the year compared with last year, according to Land Title Guarantee Co. of Glenwood Springs

“It has been busy here,” Stanczak said.

The median residential price in New Castle is $300,000, Land Title Guarantee reported, placing it fourth in the county.

Carbondale, about 20 miles from the resort town of Aspen, had the highest median price in Garfield County at $565,000. Aspen is in Pitkin County.

Glenwood Springs had the second-highest median price in Garfield County at $370,000 and Silt was third at $312,000.
