The 302nd Airlift Wing based at Peterson Air Force Base is sending two C-130H3 firefighting aircraft to battle the raging wildfires in southern California.

The National Interagency Fire Center requested Department of Defense assistance in fighting the fires.

The 302nd loaded its Modular Airborne Firefighting Equipment this morning onto two of their Lockheed Martin C-130 cargo aircraft.

Last year, the 302nd fought wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. The 302nd flew 18 sorties over fires in Idaho, Nevada and Oregon, dropping 48,600 gallons of retardant.
