Should the Colorado Rockies beat the Boston Red Sox in the upcoming World Series, some needy Coloradans could be feasting on lobster rolls and clam chowder.
As the two baseball champions prepare to battle it out on the field, the U.S. senators from Colorado and Massachusetts have already drawn their battle lines.
Colorado Sens. Ken Salazar and Wayne Allard are wagering Colorado-raised beef against New England delicacies wagered by Massachusetts Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and John Kerry.
“This is sure to be a great Series, between one of baseball’s most historic teams and one of baseball’s rising stars,” Salazar, a Democrat and fromer rancher from the San Luis Valley, said in press release. “I have faith the Rockies will win and be the ones making history.”
Regardless of the sports history to come, the friendly wager means local charities here or in Massachusetts will be winners.
The winning senators will decide which charities will benefit.
“It’s Rocktober!” said Allard, a Republica veterinarian from Loveland. “I certainly hope to do some good-natured ribbing of my friends from Massachusetts when the Rox bring home the World Series trophy.”
