ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—Brandon Marshall called it a “terrible mistake.”

The Denver Broncos receiver spoke for 19 seconds to the media Wednesday about his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence earlier this week.

Marshall was issued a summons and was released after he was pulled over in downtown Denver shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, just hours after the Broncos’ Sunday night win over Pittsburgh.

His court date is Nov. 21.

“I know the seriousness of it,” Marshall said. “I have my lawyer on it now. Hopefully, everything gets situated soon. I can talk more about it then.”

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan addressed the issue as well at his press conference Wednesday.

“Young kids make mistakes, and hopefully they learn from them,” Shanahan said. “There’s probably not a person in this room that couldn’t have been arrested some time for that. It doesn’t make it right, but if something like that happens, hopefully you learn by it and don’t do it again.”

Fellow receiver Brandon Stokley said he spoke with Marshall about the incident, just to tell him to keep his head up.

“That’s what teammates are for,” Stokley said. “You have to be there for people. You have to help them through this and let them know it’s not acceptable.”

Shanahan said he hopes that Marshall realizes the severity of his decision.

“He’s a role model and hopefully, presented with the same situation … he’ll use better judgment,” Shanahan said.

INJURY UPDATE@: Dre’ Bly downplayed the severity of his shoulder injury.

The cornerback hurt his right shoulder when he hit the ground after intercepting a pass in the first quarter against Pittsburgh.

“It was like my whole shoulder was on fire,” Bly said of his mild shoulder separation.

He returned on the next series, but favored the shoulder for the remainder of the game.

Bly said he gave no thoughts about coming out of the game.

“The shoulder would have had to come out for me to come out of the game,” Bly said.

KEEPING A SECRET@: Packers cornerback Charles Woodson is quite familiar with Shanahan’s offense after spending eight seasons in Oakland.

Just don’t ask him to reveal what he’s learned.

“Whatever insight I have, I keep it to the team,” Woodson said.

Woodson was equally tightlipped when asked who was the best cornerback between him and Champ Bailey.

WORLD SERIES FEVER@: Many of the Broncos are planning to attend at least one of the World Series game played in Denver.

“Yeah, I’m going to try to go Saturday,” quarterback Jay Cutler said. “Tickets are hard to find.”

Shanahan would like to go as well, and made his desire known.

“Do you know anyone that has any tickets?” he said Wednesday.

There will be a conflict between the Broncos’ Monday night game with Green Bay and Game 5 of the World Series, if the series lasts that long. The NFL has allowed the Broncos to move up the start time to 6:05 p.m.

“Denver is a sports town, one of the best in the country,” Cutler said. “This clarifies that. Hopefully, both stadiums are packed. Hopefully, the Rockies can close it out. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
