Cory Voorhis, a federal special agent who allegedly provided the Bob Beauprez gubernatorial campaign with information about plea agreements, has been charged with three federal misdemeanors for exceeding his authorized access to a government computer.

Each count of the charges, brought by Wyoming acting U.S. Attorney John Green, is punishable by one year of imprisonment and/or a fine not to exceed $100,000. The Colorado U.S. attorney’s office had recused itself from the case.

Voorhis, 38, is a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is accused of using the National Crime Information Center database to search for information on an illegal immigrant that was then featured in an attack ad aired by Republican Beauprez’s campaign last year.
