An Aurora homeowner was seriously burned Wednesday night when a fire broke out in his basement.
The Aurora Fire Department said Thursday that crews went to the home at 3075 Xanadu St. in north Aurora about 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters found the rapid and intense fire had almost burned itself out by the time they arrived.
The homeowner and his wife were on a neighbor’s lawn.
The man had serious burns on his upper body and was taken to University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora.
Damage to the house was estimated at $100,000.
Officials are still investigating how the fire started.
Three charged with jumping on police car after Rockies game. — Three men have been charged with jumping on a Denver police patrol car after a Rockies game.
Manuel Tapia, 22, Gregory Georgeson, 25, and Stephen Polk, 25, were charged with criminal mischief for jumping on the car Oct. 16 at the corner of 20th and Blake streets, according to a news release from the Denver district attorney’s office.
The three men allegedly caused about $3,500 in damage and if convicted of the felony could face as much as six years in prison, according to the release.
Ghosts hanging along Main Street disappear
RIVERTON, WYO. — All 57 ghostly Halloween decorations hung along Main Street were reported stolen.
Ron Warpness of the Riverton Chamber of Commerce says the theft took at least 30 minutes to perpetrate.
Warpness and another man created the ghostly decorations out of white plastic trash bags stuffed with newspapers and hung them up Oct. 9. But they were all gone Wednesday morning.
Victoria Menor of Victoria’s School of Dance on Main Street vowed to remake the ghosts and put them up Halloween morning.
State Rep. Ray Rose, R-Montrose, won’t run for a fourth term
GRAND JUNCTION — Republican state Rep. Ray Rose of Montrose says he will not run for re-election next year after his third term ends.
Rose said Wednesday that he would not rule out running for elected office in the future.
Cortez businessman Scott Tipton, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully for Congress last year, said he may run for the seat if Rose does not.
Montrose City Council member Noelle Hagan, a Democrat, has already said she plans to run.
She said she was surprised by Rose’s decision.
Rose, 63, said he wants to spend more time with his wife and other family members.
High school teacher held, accused of having sex with student
HURRICANE, UTAH — A 29-year-old Hurricane High School teacher was arrested on allegations of having sex with a student.
“Under Utah law, a juvenile student is incapable of consenting to sexual relations with a teacher,” the Hurricane Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.
“Under the law, sexual intercourse without legal consent constitutes rape.”
The female teacher, who taught social science, was placed on leave by the Washington County School District. She has not been charged.
The student in the case is a boy.
