Throw a World Series house party and the Colorado Rockies win?
You’ll feel like the kid on Christmas morning who got the best presents.
Throw a World Series party and the Rockies lose?
Well, at least you’ll have the party, plus a few friends to commiserate with.
The only way excited fans might feel worse – should the Colorado Rockies make a meager showing in their first World Series – would be not to celebrate at all. Because, who knows, maybe all it takes is one more person donning one more purple jersey and waving one more purple pennant to usher our sluggers to a historic win.
That person could be you.
So avoid the rowdy crowds and snarled traffic that promise to overtake downtown Denver this weekend – when Halloween revelry merges with Rockies fever – and bring the baseball party home. Here are some ideas for hitting a home run with your World Series house party, adapted from :
Prepare scorecards and rosters for all of the guests.
Decorate the kitchen or beverage area like a pub with beer posters, coasters and cocktail napkins. Add sports memorabilia to the mix.
Prepare a prize for anyone who comes dressed in a baseball uniform. Or hold a contest for the best Colorado Rockies garb at the party.
Set up a betting pool for one of the following: how many home runs will be hit and by whom; the final game score; who will win and by how much.
Use commercial time during the game to quiz the crowd on baseball trivia.
Few guests turn up their noses at gourmet snacks, but baseball party hosts can rejoice in the fact that this game requires little more than the basics: peanuts, Cracker Jacks, hot dogs with all the fixings, and soft pretzels.
Rock the house. More good news for anyone feeling inspired to deck out the house in honor of Rocktober: Home-improvement stores are brimming with tools and tips. Consider mining their current selection of Halloween and Christmas decor for all things purple to create a spirited World Series fiesta.
