The cause of an intense warehouse fire in Pueblo appears to be suspicious, according to preliminary findings by arson investigators.
The turn-of-the-century building, at 602 W. Sixth St., formerly known as Pueblo Ice Storage, caught fire about midnight Monday and continued burning into daylight Tuesday.
“It does appear to be multiple points of origin,” Woody Percival, a Pueblo Fire Department spokesman, said Thursday.
No firefighters were injured battling the blaze, but authorities were concerned that vagrants may have been trapped in the long- abandoned building.
So far, no bodies have been found, Percival said.
Investigators with the Fire Department continue to sift through rubble of the gutted warehouse.
A passer-by rang the bell of a firehouse in downtown Pueblo to alert firefighters to the fire just two blocks away, Percival said.
Investigators would like to talk to the man, not as a suspect, but to gain information from him, Percival said.
“We would like to know what he saw before he came over to the station,” Percival said.
The owner of the building could not be reached for comment.
Demolition of the 20,000-square-foot building could start today, but it may be hampered by asbestos that was used in the building over the years.
